Covered in olive-gray feathers, the Western Wood-Pewee can be found near streams, in open woodlands, and along forest borders. These birds perch on trees waiting for flying insects to pass by, fly out to catch it, and then return back to their perch. Western Wood-Pewees form monogamous pairs during breeding and take shifts caring for the nest and when not in breeding times can be found migrating to Central America.
