The Western Tanager can be found in forests amoung tree branches eating insects or nesting. Males have tangerine faces which fade into their yellow plumage for their body and underbelly and contrasts with their black wings. Female birds have a muted yellow plumage on their face and body with light brown wings.
VESR falls within the breeding zone of the Western Tanager.
