This medium-sized shorebird can be characterized by their dark spots along their white breast and orange beak during breeding season. While in winter, their chest lacks the spots and their beak has more of a pale yellow coloration. Spotted Sandpipes live near water and can be found along rivers, lakes, ponds, coastlines, and streams and are one of the most widespread breeding shorebirds in the US. They can be seen bobbing their tail up and down while probing for small animals to eat.
