When in during mating displays, male Sage grouse are easy to spot with their puffed chest and feather demonstrations. They are brownish-grey on their backs with a white underbelly. Living exculsively in the sagebrush steppe of western North America, they nest on the ground in dense brush and forage on the ground for primarily leaves, but also flowers, and insects. Sage Grouse participate in the breeding system, lekking, in which males will perform displays in courting females at dawn.
