Notable for its black and tan speckled plumage, Northern Flickers are large woodpeckers with a gray, brown, and red splotched head. You can find these birds on the ground foraging for ants, beetles, and other insects along with seeds and fruits. Instead of drilling in wood, Northern Flickers drill into the soil searching for ant larvae. Northern Flickers can be found in open woodlands, scattered tree areas, urban landscapes, as well as undergoing their migratory patterns.
