The Horned Lark aquires its name by the protruding feathers on either side of the male’s head resembling horns. With a habitat ranging from deserts, tundras, beaches, prairies and dunes, the Horned Lark’s yellow face with black markings can be spotted in landscapes with little vegetation. They can also be found in elevations ranging from 13,000 feet all the way to sea level! Searching for seeds and insects Horned Larks spend a lot of time on the ground.
