Blue Grouse can be found in coniferous forests, subalpine habitats, shrublands, and grasslands eating leaves, pine needles, and small invertebrates. While mostly foraging on the ground, they can be spotted searching for buds and needles in trees. Males have a dusky coloration and during courtship have patches of red along the sides of their neck. While females have a brownish gray coloration.
