When in flight the wings and tail of the Clark’s Nutcracker can resemeble the keys on a piano with contrasting white and black feathers. The rest of the body of the Clark’s Nutcracker is a taupe grey and the bird has a sharp long bill used to disect pine cones for seeds. Eating mainly seeds from pinecones, Clark’s Nutcrackers store seeds to sustain later when seeds are more sparse. Many pine species also depend on the Clark’s Nutcrackers to spread their seeds through the forest to grow.
