Facilities

SNARL serves as a base for research and teaching in a large part of eastern, central California and western Nevada. With some of the most developed facilities in the Natural Reserve System. SNARL and its associated facilities are available to all academic organizations, non-profits, government agencies and community groups that fall within the constraints of our education, research, and public service mission. SNARL has overnight facilities for up to 50 people, and has outdoor space for camping in summer if housing facilities are full. High speed WIFI internet is available throughout the SNARL campus.

SNARL has conference, classroom, workshop and meeting spaces for large groups of up to 150 in the Page Center or smaller meetings of up to 15 in the SNARL classroom. See our Meetings and Workshops page for more information

SNARL has a modern laboratory as well as a Wet laboratory for work with fish and aquatic organisms and an IACUC approved animal laboratory for work with small mammals. See our Laboratory Page for more information

One of the most unique features of SNARL is the experimental stream channel system

The CUES Snow Science Laboratory is operated by SNARL and is located on Mammoth Mountain just outside of the McCoy station.

We have several Office Spaces in the Headquarters building that may be reserved for use by researchers or students.

The Phil Pister library at SNARL is home to Phil Pister’s collection of books and other written materials, as well as wide variety of books, theses and documents pertinent to Eastern Sierra biology and Ecology.

We have a designated camping area where users may pitch tents and camp when other facilities are full. The camping area has a bathroom shack with 2 bathrooms and showers, and there is a common use kitchen and lounge area in the Headquarters Building for use by campers.

Our Headquarters Building serves as the main office for SNARL and houses researcher offices, the Pister Library, a conference room as well as a kitchen and living area.

We have a large garage to house our heavy equipment, boats and other supplies and equipment for maintaining the reserve. We have a small shop and a small wood shop that users may use after coordinating with our Operations Manager.
