The Brook Trout can be identified by its vermiculation pattern or weaving, maze-like lines along the back of the fish. On this fish, you can also notice a green coloration that fades to orange with yellow and red spots. The Brook Trout is native to the northeatern US and Canada and was brought to California in 1871 causing high population levels within the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Brook Trout eats aquatic insects and average about nine to ten inches in length.
