The Band-tailed Pigeon gets its name from the gray band at the tip of its tail. The rest of its body is a slate-blue on the top and a periwinkle-gray underneath. They tend to forage for nuts, fruits, and seeds in groups anywhere from ten to hundreds of birds. Living in forests, mountains, and urban areas, Band-tailed Pigeons often travel large distances, averaging three miles, in search for food.
