Hairy Woodpecker

You can find Hairy Woodpeckers all the way from sea level to mountain elevations in North America. While closely related to the Downy Woodpecker, the Hairy Woodpeckers typically spend time on thicker branches and trunks while the Downy Woodpecker thrives on thinner branches. The Hairy Woodpecker has a white body with speckled black wings and males have a red patch at the crown of thier heads. Forging for insects inside of park, you can find the Hairy Woodpecker drilling holes in trees to dig out insects. When bark beetles start to infest forests, Hairy Woodpeckers will arrive in masses to eat the larvae.
